(Article written by John Charles Liegl):

Save the date October 26, 2019!

South County Airport Pilots Association (SCAPA) will be activating a DART exercise at the South County Airport E-16. We are requesting volunteers. The program is the result of the realization that the Southern Santa Clara County is vulnerable and could be cut off from services and supplies resulting from a major disaster such as the example set by the Loma Prieta Earthquake in 1989.

If this happens, the only way we will be able to evacuate people and bring in supplies will be by air. We have all seen the devastation of collapsed bridges and structures that are shaken to rubble. Other disasters are possible due to flooding and the fires in Northern California. We have been able to respond to these this year. I see a real reason to be a part of something bigger. We members of SCAPA know there is a great purpose for an organization like DART.

Don’t worry if you haven’t participated in the past. We have the experience and know how to help you be part of the team.

Our training is professional and free. We enjoy the experience and you will know you are preparing for your families and communities ability to survive. We partner with the Office of Emergency Services (OES), Community Emergency Response Teams of Gilroy and Morgan Hill (CERT), Central Fire, The Hospitals and much more. We are working with emerging DARTs throughout California and have seen interest from other States who are watching what we do and how we do it. I think they like it!

Come and be a part of DART. Be a part of the solution. We need you to be part of the San Martin Airport Disaster Airlift Response Team. Let me know that you will be with us at the San Martin Airport on October 26, 2019 at 9:00 AM.

Contact John Charles Liegl.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Team Planner, John Charles Liegl
