The following is the 2019 SCAPA Fly-Out schedule. SCAPA members should contact Kent Mazzia for more information.

  • March 10, 2019: Los Banos Airport, walk about 300 yards to lunch. Depart at 11AM. Meet at Hangar G3.
  • March 23, 2019: Salinas California Airshow (Frank Giancola will host/organize). Meet at Frank's Hangar. SCAPA members contact Frank Giancola for more information.
  • April 13, 2019: Modesto, Lunch served Noon-1PM. Depart at 10:30AM. Meet at Hangar G3.

    INTEL ABOUT TRAVIS AIR SPACE

    A-682, better known as Travis airspace, surrounds the Class D Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California. As general aviation pilots, we cross this space all the time. Many of us talk to Travis ATC and some do not. How does our transit through their airspace affect Travis operations and its military flights?

    Join Captain Matthew Wangler, who will explain Travis flight operations and how we can responsibly share the airspace.

    Morgan Hill Times: San Martin Airport to Receive Major Upgrades; Reid Hillview to Close

    Good news for San Martin Airport; bad news for Reid Hillview Airport.

    According to a December 13, 2018 article published in the Morgan Hill Times, entitled "County Votes to Expand Airport" by Barry Holtzclaw, "...Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors Dec. 4 authorized a long-term plan to close the Reid-Hillview Airport in east San Jose and make substantial investments in upgrading and expanding the San Martin Airport..."

    San Martin Lions Support Local Disaster Preparedness with Donation

    The Lions Club of San Martin continued its support for the local community and disaster preparedness when, for the second year, the club donated funds to the South County Airport Pilots Association Disaster Airlift Response Team (SCAPA DART), a local charity dedicated to philanthropy.

    “The San Martin Lions Club appreciates the role SCAPA DART plays in the community for disaster relief. We would also like to be involved in the next Disaster training with hands on support and the use of our Hall,” said Jane Stevens, President of the Lions Club of San Martin.

    High-Flying Aviation Students Awarded 2017 $1200 Scholarships

    Two Gilroy aviation students and an aviation student from San Jose each received a $1200 scholarship sponsored by the the South County Airport Pilots Association (SCAPA), a non-profit San Martin organization dedicated to preserving the San Martin Airport.

    Emmett Marshal Jackson and Noel Perez, both of Gilroy, and Michelle Tripp of San Jose were selected to receive the scholarships.
