August 24th Annual BBQ at Magnum Aviation! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mike Brogley
Sunday, 10 August 2014

This year’s summer BBQ party will kick off at 4:00 pm on August 23rd at the Magnum hangar. Your grill masters will be Jim Peterson and Mike Brogley, and SCAPA will pick up the charges for burgers, hot dogs, sodas, water and cake. If you bring a side dish such as appetizers, salad, fruit, or veggies and serving utensils, that would round out the smorgasbord. Also, if you’d like to drink something other than sodas and water, feel free to bring it along, and there will likely be some spare room in the ice chests. As usual, there will be a raffle, and folks who are at the airport but not SCAPA members will be welcome to attend the party and meal.

See You There!

Saturday, 28 June 2014

We gather at 5:30pm, serve dinner at 6:00pm ($15 members, $20 non-members, Guests Welcome!), hold a speedy business meeting at 6:45pm, and our speaker presentation kicks off at 7:00pm. Our topic this month is:

The Air and Space 18A Gyroplane

The Air and Space 18A is one of only three gyroplanes to have received an FAA Standard Airworthiness Certificate since the Second World War. Designed in the late 1950s - early 1960s, the Air and Space 18A was the brainchild of fertilizer manufacturer and distributor Ray Umbaugh, who considered gyroplanes an ideal, inexpensive means of increasing the efficiency of his sales force.

FAA Wings Credit has been approved for this event - sign up on the FAA Wings site here!

The 2014 South County Airport Open House and Fly-In on May 17th was a huge success. SCAPA members assisted with set up, worked the parking ramp area with a full team to assist Fly-In planes with parking and keep the public and moving propellers safely apart, and assisted with teardown and cleanup to return the E16 south ramp to service. SCAPA members also helped cook up the delicious tri tip for the sandwiches, and piloted Young Eagles flights at the event, taking care of the long line of eager kids by giving free rides in fixed wing and helicopter general aviation aircraft all day long.

SCAPA 2014 Scholarship Awards! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jim Petersen
Wednesday, 14 May 2014

At our member meeting on Tuesday night, May 13th, SCAPA awarded our 2014 annual $1,000 SCAPA scholarships to three outstanding young people:
1) Jose Rocha who is a Civil Air Patrol volunteer and very high GPA high school student.
2) Ivan Delgado who is a current Magnum maintenance employee and high GPA Gavilan student.
3) Steven Naranjo who is working on his A&P certification with high GPA and motivation at Gavilan.

We had ten top quality candidates to select from and it was a tough choice to finalize our vote. Pat Belanger did a knock up job at getting the applications out and doing the foot work.

Sincerely,
Jim Petersen
