Bonanzas to Oshkosh: The World's Largest Formation Flight of Civilian Aircraft presented by Larry Gains

-FAASafety-approved for WINGS credit-

Each year in late July about 100 Beechcraft Bonanzas and Barons assemble in Rockford, Illinois and fly in the world’s largest formation of civilian aircraft to the EAA AirVenture annual celebration of aviation in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Bonanzas to Oshkosh began in 1990 when Wayne Collins and a few friends decided the only way to ensure camping together was to arrive together in formation. The formation has become an annual tradition, attracting pilots nationwide who train for the event and look forward to the accomplishment and camaraderie of the experience.

Our speaker this evening is Larry Gaines from Stockton, who has flown with the B2OSH group every year since 2000. Larrry started a training clinic in Northern California, and in 2007 he was asked to take over the organization of the nationwide B2OSH effort

Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016 was our best ever DART exercise. 45 attendees, good blending of SCAPA pilots, CERT volunteers, cities of Gilroy and Morgan Hill emergency managers, pilots flying in from other airports including two pilot associations who are starting their own DARTs and the Watsonville WEACT, the editor of the Gilroy Dispatch, and a photographer from the Morgan Hill Times. See the nice posting by Dick Filson, a pilot from Stockton who participated for his second year, who happens to be my brother-in-law who I fly to Oshkosh with every summer.

Corl Leach -- "CalPilots & Topics for California’s General Aviation Community"

With more than 200 local and regional aviation-interested organizations in the state, how do we all communicate with each other? The answer is simple: collaborate through the existing state-level organization created to preserve, protect, and promote California’s general aviation community and airports.

We will learn about issues facing general aviation from our speaker, the president of CalPilots. He will explain how the “Three Tiers of Aviation Advocacy” apply directly to us. This is an opportunity to get up to date on the topics that are engaging CalPilots and to share your own concerns and ideas. This part of the evening will be a conversation, not a lecture!
