Tuesday, July 11, 2017 Dinner Meeting and Program -- "Increasing Flight Safety by Becoming a CFI" PDF Print E-mail
Written by Bette Gardner
Tuesday, 20 June 2017
--Approved by FAASafety for WINGS credit--

If you have wondered about the training, the time and financial commitment to become a flight instructor, then join Mike Shiflett from CFI Bootcamp for a presentation on becoming a CFI.

Gaining your flight instructor certificate Is an opportunity to become part of a group of aviation leaders that are responsible for ensuring flight safety in everything we do. Instructors solo student pilots, recommend pilots for practical tests, provide training and endorsements to fly high performance, complex, tailwheel airplanes and much more.

Becoming a flight instructor is seen by many as the ultimate achievement in aviation knowledge. You learn the material so well because you have to teach it. This improves your own knowledge and, of course, your own flight safety.

Mike will also provide some educational and entertaining checkride stories from the 11 years he was a Designated Pilot Examiner in the San Jose FSDO.

Tuesday, May 9, 2017 -- Dinner Meeting and Program: "Risk Management in Everyday Flight" PDF Print E-mail
Written by Bette Gardner
Monday, 24 April 2017
We focus this evening on managing the risk of flying.

Implementing a risk management process into our everyday flying is an important aspect of increasing flight safety. The risk management process includes identifying hazards, evaluating the associated risk, and then finding ways to mitigate the risks. Join us as we look at some practical ways we, as pilots, can apply these principles in our flying, with an emphasis on pre-flight planning. You will have the opportunity to practice with sample scenarios.

About our speaker: SCAPA member Coby Sena is a full-time CFI with a strong interest in safety and risk management. When not instructing, Coby is active in Civil Air Patrol as an instructor pilot, Safety Officer, and Standards and Evaluation Officer.
